1.    NADRA Death Certificate Explanation.

 

A Death Certificate is known by various names like (1) Death Certificate NADRA (2) Death Certificate Union Council (3) Computerized Death Certificate.

 

A death certificate contains the a lot of information like the name of deceased, his date of death, place of death,  graveyard in which he/she was buried, name of doctor (if applicable), name of applicant, date of issue of death certificate, signature and stamp of issuing authority/official.

 

Some people call it as “NADRA Death Certificate” and think that a Death Certificate is issued by NADRA, but this thinking of people is not correct because NADRA does not issue a Death Certificate to the applicants.

  2. The immovable property of deceased can be transferred from the name of deceased in favour of his/her legal heirs.
  3. The immovable property of deceased can be sold/ disposed of by the legal heirs of deceased.
  4. Amount of deceased lying in any bank account can be withdrawn by the legal heirs of deceased.
  5. Pension of deceased can be transferred in favour of widow or unmarried /widow daughter of deceased.
  6. Many other things can be done with the help of a death certificate. 

 

4.    Documents required for Death Certificate

 

The documents requirement may be little bit different in different provinces of Punjab and also depend from which department; a death certificate is required to be issued either from Local Union Council, Cantonment Board or CDA etc. Anyhow, here, I have provided the detail of documents required for a death certificate for local Union Council in Punjab, which are as under:-

 

  1. Application Form for Death Certificate
  2. Copy of CNIC of deceased  
  3. Hospital Death Certificate / Receipt (if death took place in hospital. If death took place in house, then no need to attach hospital’s death certificate/ receipt))  
  4. Copy of CNIC of applicant.
  5. Other documents like graveyard slip, affidavit etc may also be needed but not in all the cases.

6.    Fee of Death certificate

 

A death certificate fee may be a little bit low or high depending on from which department, after how long period of death you have applied because late fee will also be applicable in case of applying after 60 days of the death. Anyhow, if you have applied within time, death certificate fee will be about Rs. 50/- to 500/-.

 

In, my case I paid Rs. 300/-for death certificate of my father. 

 

7.    Procedure of Death Certificate in Pakistan

                             

Once, you have gathered the above said documents or any other necessary documents. Do the following steps.

 

  1. Get the application form for Death certificate attested from your local Lambardar/Nambadar or Gazetted Officer etc.
  2. Visit your local union council along with all the necessary documents  and attested application form for death certificate.
  3. Pay the required fee
  4. Obtain receipt (if they issue)
  5. Get your death certificate by visiting the same local union council on the date of delivery, you have been told by staff of union council.

 

8.    Delivery Time for Death certificate

 

You may get your death certificate within 5 days of submitting all necessary documents. 

In my case, I was directed to receive the death within 2 days but to being busy, I received the death certificate my father on 4th or 5th day.

The death certificate time limit is usually 60 days, which means within 60 days of the death of a deceased, you can apply for his/her death certificate without any penalty/ late fee or trouble.
