In term “Shajra Nasab”, two words are present, first word is Shajra which means tree and second word is Nasab which in simplest mean is family. So, a Shajra Nasab can be said “Family Tree”.

When we talk about finding out Shajra Nasab of an individual, we would particularly mean finding out ancestors of that individual generation by generation like who is his father, who is his grand father, who is his Great-Grandfather, who is his Great-Great-Grandfather and so on.

Many peoples wish to find their Shajra Nasab. Some people have interest but some people have their genuine needs to find the same.

The reasons to find out a Shajra Nasab may include understanding family history, preserving family legacy, identifying ancestral connections, establishing rights in inheritance, personal identity, medical history, cultural/ historical research or being curious to find out roots of the family.

The record of family tree / Shajra Nasab is not only available with NADRA but also with Patwaris.  NADRA issues Shajra Nasab to the applicant on his/her request against charges.

Though, Patwaris do not possess record of each and every person of a particular area but still Shajra Nasab of some residents / land owners they have.

The record of Shajra NASAB maintained by NADRA is in shape of Family Registration Certificate (FRC), which is issued to the applicant on his/ request against charges.

The facility to apply for a document of Shajra Nasab or Family Registration Certificate is available online on the official website of NADRA. The document of Shajra Nasab can also be obtained by visiting NADRA office.

If you want to get detail of your parents along with your siblings (brothers & sisters) you can apply in the category of "FRC with parents and siblings"

If you want to get detail of your grand parents or great-grand parents etc, you cannot apply for Shajra Nasab /family detail from NADRA. In this case, your father can apply for detail of his own parents and siblings under the same category i.e "FRC with parents and siblings subject to availability.

So, in this scenario two FRCs would be required to be obtained to know the Shajra Nasab existing in the record of NADRA.

Getting Shajra Nasab from NADRA is very much limited, however, if you are unable to find Shajra Nasab from NADRA, you can visit the Patwari of the area where your ancestors/ father/grand father/great grand father resided and held land.
